Verdin

Toradex is excited to introduce the Verdin AM62P, the newest member of the Verdin System on Module (SoM) family. Building on the success of the Verdin AM62, the AM62P comes to deliver a more complete feature set in a similarly efficient and cost-effective design, offering exceptional value for its price. It is the perfect fit for embedded developers looking for a TI-based alternative to NXP’s i.MX 8M Mini, and integrates the value from TI’s software ecosystem – including their upstream software strategy, transparency and predictability – in order to effectively lower your total cost-of-ownership.

Quad-Core Performance with Powerful Hardware Acceleration

Designed and built for high-volume projects with mid-range performance needs, the Verdin AM62P is powered by up to 4x ARM Cortex-A53 cores and a dedicated Cortex-R5F for real-time and low-power tasks. The SoM also delivers up to 50 GFLOPS of graphical performance and offers a dedicated 4K-ready VPU, making it ideal for higher volume industrial applications that require fluid user interfaces and video processing, while keeping costs lower. One of the Verdin AM62P's key differentiators is its advanced multimedia pipeline, offering unparalleled capabilities for the cost:

  • Camera Input
    • 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 interface, with up 1.5Gbps per lane
    • Capable of handling, for example, a 4K camera at 30fps
  • Video Processing
    • A Video Processing Unit (VPU) with hardware-accelerated decoding and encoding
    • Supports both H.265 and H.264 up to 4K UHD resolution (3840 × 2160)
  • Graphical Processing
    • A powerful Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) with 50 GFLOPS of theoretical performance
  • Display Output
    • Triple Display Support:
      • 1x MIPI DSI Quad-Lane (up to 3840x1080 at 60fps)
      • 1x LVDS Dual Channel, that can be setup as either:
        • OLDI-DL: 1x Display (up to 3840x1080 at 60fps); or
        • OLDI-SL: 2x Displays (up to 1920x1080 at 60fps, each)

These features make the AM62P a compelling solution for graphically-intensive use cases such as HMI panels, smart medical devices, and multimedia-rich automation systems.

Overview of the Verdin Family

The Verdin AM62P extends Toradex's portfolio of SoMs to a new area that overlaps high graphical performance, industrial readiness and low cost, besides adding another silicon vendor as a second provider to lower possible supply chain risks. Compared to other lower-cost Verdin SoMs, the Verdin AM62P offers the highest GPU performance, the most performant VPU, a Cortex-R5 real-time core (instead of Cortex-Ms) and additional display interfaces.

Torizon: Facilitated Development and Compliance with Cyber Regulations

At the software layer, our Linux-based Torizon offering streamlines compliance with cybersecurity regulations such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act (EU CRA), and accelerates time-to-market for manufacturers by offering out-of-the-box evaluation and development tools.

Torizon is endorsed by Texas Instruments (TI) and is strengthened by its partnership with Toradex. The Torizon OS can be run on TI’s development kits for the AM62P System-on-Chip (SoC), and then scaled up to production with Toradex’s Verdin AM62P SoM, all on the same software stack.
